I walk into my desk area to find a square present wrapped in Frosty the Snowman Christmas wrapping. It’s from bestie Sam and her boyfriend Aaron.
Immediately I open it and am presented with the Best. Christmas. Gift. Ever. In the history of the world.
The obsession continues. I look forward to hanging this in between our bathroom mirrors, so Kevin gets the benefit of this ever so gracious gift.

I ran the longest run of my life on Sunday. That’s not saying much as it was only 9.5 miles, but still, I did it! It was a hard, hilly, hot run, but Kevin was there with me every step of the way encouraging me to run at my pace. He also prevented me from getting run over about 3 times. Yay for not dying.

After the run, we went for brunch at Galaxy Cafe and ran into Mack Brown! We didn’t speak, but it must have been pretty cool for him to be in the presence of my greatness.

Here are the photos of my run around my town! The course we ran was the first 9 miles of the Austin LIVESTRONG Marathon and Half Marathon. Kev is training for his 5th marathon completion and I’m looking to finish my first half-marathon.

We started the run on 3rd & Lavaca and run up to the Capitol.

Then, we took Congress down to Ben White (Hwy.71).

Then took first street all the way up to the first street bridge and back to 3rd and Lavaca.

Finally taking down Christmas decor. No judging, it’s been a hell of a month so far. But, I got to watching Funny Face followed by the 1974 version of The Great Gatsby and stopped the tree shrinking process altogether.

However, today was a gorgeous day. It reminded me of the gorgeous day it was when I set the tree up before Christmas. Ahhh, the wonders of winter in Texas.

A beautiful sunset as seen from my office. Working late is usually never fun, but it felt really good to work on projects that I love and am excited about.

My hair has been through the Roy G. Biv spectrum since… 7th grade. At all started with an awful run-in with a Sun-In epidemic in Junior High and my hair has never been the same since. My Mom decided to spare the world my orange hair and help me get my first set of hair color and highlights.
To me, hair is just hair. I can cut it short knowing it’ll grow back. I’ll grow it super long knowing that one day I’ll cut it short. I’ve experimented with hair color from red to brown to blonde and yes, even pink. It’s just hair!
On Jan. 15, I decided it was time to go back to my roots. I’m back to being a brunette, and I think it’ll stick this time. At least until the summer comes and I’m back in the chair getting more pink hair. That was fun!
Ps. I miss the summer sun. My whitewashed winter skin color isn’t cutting it in photos anymore.

Visiting another Austin staple during Amy’s visit is the super vintage BBQ restaurant, IronWorks. I loved looking at their corner of iron artifacts!

My German Shepherd puppy-dog Nixon, who isn’t actually a puppy anymore, is sometimes petrified by the smallest, strangest things in our home. Today, it was a Santa plate.
The Santa plate lived in my kitchen during the holidays, and now that it’s not the holidays, the decor is coming down. I placed the Santa on a plate stand in the living room while I finished dinner and Nixon just stood in front of it, moving his head from side to side.
I, being the poor dog owner I am, put the plate in front of his face and he retreated like Germans in WWII. He looked up at with me with question in his eyes as if to say “Why? Why would you scare me like that?”.

Today was incredible. Lunch with a family friend from South Texas, drinks/dinner with a bestie in Austin. Good company always makes good food and drink that much better.
Featured in the photo: smoked Gouda, kalamata olives, and vintage Chilean wine (otherwise known as dinner).

Packing for next day cube move: Cubical moves are never fun. And this was real move since settling in about 4 years ago. I was 100% completely sad about loosing my real estate but it’s only a cubical. And it only houses my dork-cube stuff. It was weird though, seeing the 4 boxes that hold my 6 years of NI belongings.

But, it also provided the opportunity for a big cleanse of stuff just taking space and creating clutter.

In all regards though, it was a sad, sad day.

As part of a new year goal, I have decided to take one photo a day and publish it on my blog. This is an effort to ensure that I understand that every day is different, appreciated, and significant.

Smarties remind me of my maternal grandfather. While he vastly preferred to give us caramels, he would sometimes surprise us with smarties. Every time we saw him, even if we’d seen him the day before, he’d have a candy in his pocket to give us. It’s like he had an endless supply of caramels and smarties he kept in secret at home. The candies were usually in his right breast shirt pocket and you always knew he had something in there.

I saw my grandparents every Sunday. We were lucky enough to have my immediate family live within a 10 mile radius of each other and they’d drive to their 4 children’s houses and say hello after mass. For 16 years, this was tradition. My grandfather passed away years ago, and seeing the smarties at work the other day simply triggered the memory of him and how good he was to us. The following day, Jan. 4, I had the fortune of being with family as we mourned and celebrated the life of my brother-in-law’s grandfather. He was also a wonderful man, and left a legacy of love and life in his family.

Note to self (and you): Appreciate the people in your life. Make traditions you can live and love by.

I’m running a half-marathon in February. Saturday was a gorgeous day for a run. Instead of a photo of my running shoes, here’s a summary of my run. This was a personal record of all kinds, but not my longest distance to date. It is, however, my fastest mile. 9:15 is not to shabby for the likes of me!
